God doesn’t give you more than you can handle…In His Strength
November 7, 2017 11:45 am Leave your thoughtsWe were honored to be invited to speak at this year’s Joni and Friends Arizona Director’s Dinner annual fundraiser held at the Phoenix Zoo. Our host Vanessa Rose Williams from TBN interviewed us to share a little of our story of some of the amazing things God has done in our life and how we have been impacted by Joni and Friends with their Family Retreat.
What an exciting night to have the privilege to share along with the President and COO of Joni and Friends from California, Doug Mazza, as he shared his story as well. We both shared how in each of our lives when we weren’t able to do it on our own and how when we surrender to God, we’re able to do anything in His strength and have a joy-filled life. We are not meant to go through anything on our own. So much of the time many of us try to do it in our own strength yet it results in suffering, bitterness, or giving up. It is easier and meant for us to do in His strength. It’s not that “God won’t give us more than we can handle”. There’s a lot in life we really can’t handle, God won’t give us more than we can handle “In His Strength”. So, when we’re going through whatever it is that’s tough, traumatizing, or difficult in our own eyes…if we surrender, pray & rely on God then He’ll bless us with His peace & joy.
We shared how Kelly almost died when rolling his jeep and breaking his neck leaving him quadriplegic on a ventilator 20 years ago, how it was not only severely traumatizing and life threatening at the time but changed our lives forever. God used the little Joni book to help us by giving us hope that He did still have a plan for Kelly and our family. What a blessing to be able to be a part of this event and share 20 years later how blessed we are to have such wonderful Christian friends and this new community of Joni and Friends in our life.
This annual fundraising event is to help raise awareness and support for individuals and families affected by disability, specifically for Arizona Family Retreat & the Poland Wheels for the World outreach. You can share your support by giving online (tax deductible) at https://www.joniandfriends.org/donate/?office=arizona. We suggest using the ministry designation “Where Needed Most” so JAF Arizona can direct the funds as needed.
And…Oh what fun it was, as well, spending time with friends and getting us in the Christmas spirit with all the Zoo lights & Christmas music!
